The 20 Movies That Dave Is Looking Forward To For The Rest of 2008 by David Rosen
"What are you looking forward to this Fall/Winter Jewish Dave," you ask yourself?
Well here you go my lovely fans and friends. In alphabetical order (I didn't feel like playing favorites here), my top 20 most awaited films of the rest of the year... 1. Appaloosa Ed Harris & Viggo Mortensen re-team after one of my favorite movies, "A History of Violence." This happens to be TJ's most awaited movie of the year, but then again he just likes guys to dress like cowboys. 2. Blindness Creepy fucking trailer... So-so reviews at Cannes... But I'm still looking forward to it. 3. The Brothers Bloom Finally a new film from the writer/director of "Brick." Starring Adrien Brody and Rachel Weisz. Sign me up. 4. Changeling Clint Eastwood. Need I say more? OK I will... Angelina Jolie looks like the great Angelina Jolie that she used to be and doesn't talk with a weird foreign accent for a change. Trailer looks great too. 5. Choke I actually read a book in my adult life, and THIS was it (and I loved it). It's hard to believe that this is only the 2nd Chuck Palahniuk book to be made into a movie (after "Fight Club"). 6. City Of Ember Bill Murray does sci-fi? Hmm... 7. The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button Brad Pitt & David Fincher reteam for one of the strangest, best looking movies of the year. 8. The Day The Earth Stood Still This could be REALLY bad... But the pictures so far look so cool and stylized... I'm gonna give it a chance... 9. Frost/Nixon It's Ron Howard so I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it's going to be pretty good. If nothing else, the music in the trailer is amazing. 10. Gran Torino Two Clint Eastwood movies in one year? I don't even really know what this one is about but I can't wait! 11. Milk Sean Penn in a political drama about the first openly Gay politician. I wonder if this will get nominated for an Oscar? 12. Religilous Bill Maher, one of my favorite comedians, goes after religion. Don't be surprised if I stand up and applaud. 13. The Road An adaptation of a Cormac McCarthy ("No Country For Old Men") novel about post-apocalyptic America starring Viggo Mortensen. This will be amazing. 14. Role Models David Wain! Paul Rudd! Sean William Scott? Well... I'm sure David Wain knows what he's doing with his first big studio movie. And this time Gina & I won't have to drive to San Diego to see it like we did with "The Ten." 15. The Spirit I don't claim to know anything about graphic novels, but I loved "Sin City" and "300" and this is the same dude. Except now he's directing. 16. Synecdoche, New York Charlie Kaufman finally directs himself (in case you don't know who he is, he's written 2 of my top five favorite films of all time)! Reviews say it's too weird... Since when has that been a bad thing? 17. W. - I think everyone wants to see this one... 18. The Wrestler This is actually at the top of my list right now because I'm currently obsessed with Darren Aranofsky. All of the reviews from the Venice & Toronto Film Festivals don't hurt either. 19.(tie) Yes Man & Bedtime Stories I always hold out hope for Jim Carrey ("Yes Man") and Adam Sandler ("Bedtime Stories") movies to be funny. Sue me. 20. Zack and Miri make a porno A new Kevin Smith film that actually looks funny... It's been a long time. Your comments?
